Close fitting soft and very thick fur covers the dog’s square shaped body. White fur that is made more impressive by red and brown markings insulates the dog from extremely hot or cold temperatures. The dog’s appearance is made more impressive by the bushy tail that loosely curls over the back of the dog.
This dog breed was purposely developed to be an all around farm dog but it has evolved into an outstanding hunting dog as well. A Norrbottenspets is not really a large breed but the remarkable courage and cunning personality makes the dog an excellent hunter. A Norrbottenspets is both a sight and scent hunter unlike other breeds of hounds that are either scent or sight hunters. This dog is described as foxy not because of a fox-like appearance but because of a cunning personality that is manifested when hunting. Immediately after the dog is released in the hunting area, it will start to flush out game. Once an animal is cornered, the dog would start to bark rapidly purportedly to confuse the game and to cover the sounds made by the approaching hunter.
This rather small dog has a big personality. The dog has an affectionate nature that makes it an ideal dog for older couples needing companionship and security. The dog’s vivaciousness, as well as the energetic and playful personality are qualities that enable the dog to form a strong bond with the human family. Because of these qualities, the dog can take part in all the activities of the family.
The breed was in fact named as one the 10 top breeds acclaimed for their gentleness with children. Loving and kind, a Norrbottenspets will exhibit a stable temperament in any situation. Unlike other breeds, a Norrbottenspets will not be aggressive or react negatively if harassed or teased by children .
